While I agree it is good to encourage children to read, there are already many, many fabulous books in existence and more are written every day. Sometimes reading something older can be a stretch, but so what? By simplifying and modernising a book, you lose so much. I honestly don't know how you can separate the stories of Dickens or Jane Austen from the language they are written in. I feel much the same about movies and TV series made from books, though of course all these things can bring people to read the originals in the end.never enough bookshelveshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10354046623533487978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2926577765279695393.post-44845345997279972442015-02-11T13:00:40.235+00:002015-02-11T13:00:40.235+00:00If you haven't read Four Children why are you ...If you haven't read Four Children why are you ranting? Perhaps it's a perfectly enjoyable story that children identify with. I read a lot. but much as I like the stories of Dickens, Austen et al, I don't particularly like picking through the old-fashioned language. Surely anything that encourages children to read in this digital age is good, no?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
